→ Win 2 k
Due to Bibi9, who posted this solution in German sst forum
1. Log in to your PC as administrator or as user with admin rights.
Windows 2000 should be updated to SP2 (Service Pack) mindest.
Microsoft-update
------------------------------
But if you already have Sp4 which is yet available you can go further to step 3, XP installation.
2. Press START and RUN and type cmd
It opens a DOS-Prompt. -->
type/paste:
regsvr32 c:Windows\AppPatch\slayerui.dll
+ ENTER
That will activate the compatibility-mode.
3. Link-up the SETUP.EXE to desctop.
Rightclick the shortcut.
PROPERTIES and COMPATIBILITY and choose Win98. -->
RE-START
Double-click the shortcut on desctop ....
and that's it.
I've got the game running with this in W2k.

Alas in German language, but you'll nevertheless get the point.

→ Windows XP
XP-users start at item 3.
update: As a latest 'Find-out' from a guy at the sst-forum (Bode) who said that
Sstitanic did not run in Win XP because of SP2, but when unistalled the
Service-pack2 the game runs fine. Here's a link to that thread:
thread from agust 2004 in SGT-forum.
→ Windows XP SP 2
August 6 2005. Another important update:
A find-out by a poster at sst-forum (Link to thread)
Copied text: videos don't work on SP2 solution
This fixes the problem of the videos. And the TVs.
Got this from here:

OK, so the answer is to go back to the ICCVID.DLL version which was installed with Windows XP, Service Pack 1. On a Windows XP(SP1) CD-ROM the compressed version of the file is located in the \i386 sub-directory as the file ICCVID.DL_ with a file size of 36,141 bytes. Copy the compressed file to a temporary sub-directory, then use the WinXP command-line utility EXPAND.EXE as follows:
EXPAND ICCVID.DL_ ICCVID.DLL
This file expansion should yield the file ICCVID.DLL with a file size of 110,592 bytes, dated 08/29/2002. The version number is v1.10.0.6 and will correct all problems with 'cvid' AVI files. The recommendation would be to rename the current Service Pack 2 installed ICCVID.DLL file in the %windir%\System32 sub-directory. Also maintain a duplicate copy of the SP1 ICCVID.DLL file in the %windir%\System32 sub-directory in the case a future Windows XP Service Pack 3 would again replace the ICCVID.DLL with a newer, even less helpful version... So the %windir%\System32 sub-directory should contain:
08/29/2002 08:00 AM 110,592 iccvid.dll (v1.10.0.6)
08/29/2002 08:00 AM 110,592 iccvid.dll.sp1 (spare for future!)
08/04/2004 03:56 AM 80,384 iccvid.dll.sp2 (spare for future?) (broken!)
It worked for me. If it doesn't work for you, I take no responsibility.

→ Mac OS X Full Install
From StarshipTitanic Forum (posted in September 2004 by ColoradoJon) Mac OS X Full Install
Thought I would share this for any Mac users that stop by. This is how to do a full install on Mac OS X running classic mode. Someone posted way back about the medium and full installs mysteriously disappearing after installation.
First, trim your extensions using extension manager. Keep only the quicktime and open transport extensions. Disable everything else, including all control panels. Its best to make a new extension set, called "Starship Titanic".
Launch the installer, select FULL install. Make sure both checkboxes are checked. Select your game destination folder and then start the install. You will be prompted for disk 2, and then disk 3. Then you will be asked to insert disk 1 again, but DON'T! Instead, use the finder to navigate to your install directory and DUPLICATE it. Once the copy is complete (you should have a "Starship Titanic" directory and a "Starship Titanic (copy)" directory), insert disc 1. The installer will continue and then delete the original "Starship Titanic" directory.
Then launch the installer again, select the SMALL install, check both checkboxes, and select a destination folder. The small install will create the necessary preference file. Finish the game installation and then quit the Quicktime installer without installing it.
Then, using the finder, navigate to the small install folder and delete it. Now rename your full install directory to "Starship Titanic".
That's it, your done! You can remove the disc, put them away, and play the game!
